We work hard with each school each year to ensure your child has a successful transition to ‘big school’. Everything we do in our nursery is designed to help the children be confident, inquisitive problem solvers – our aim is that every child is ready to burst into their Reception Year at school full of excitement and joy! We start working on our formal transition to school after Easter, we invite your child’s teacher to visit the nursery, and support any transition days your child’s school arranges. We acknowledge that it is a big step for both you and your child, and our job is to make sure it all goes well!
There has been much talk recently about ‘School Readiness’ – this is important, we acknowledge the importance of your child being emotionally ready to start school – this means being secure to enter a new environment, having simple skills such as being able to put on their own coat, and recognise their own belongings, all make those first few weeks so much easier. Our summer term ends with a ‘Pre School Trip’ and a ‘Leavers Tea’ each year – a celebration of your child’s time with us and a lovely send off to school.
We continue to have contact with you and your family as your child starts school – we invite you back to come and visit, and love to see your child in their smart school uniform! We provide an after school pick up and care service called ‘Poppins’ – we do daily school collections from St Cuthberts School, Glasshouses School and Dacre Braithwaite School – phone Heather at the nursery for more information.
We also run school holiday care too – we provide full day care in the school holidays with age appropriate activities, in an environment where you know your child can still receive the high standard of care they need.
